'Courie In, Hen

'Courie In, Hen"

Inspired by a prose poem, 'Heredity 2', by Kathleen Jamie in 'Frissure' (Polygon, 2013).

"The annual rush of indomitable little harebells springing up from every crevice in the rocks around Edinburgh's Salisbury Craggs always reassures me. This year it brought to mind another of Kathleen's fragments. Something about their blue, and the ochres, pinks and greens around me as I walked suggested that mood. That they gather in the same places at the same time each year reminded me of being a small child at family gatherings, within a protective circle of women, discussing their lives."
