"Labelling Burns: The Lover" (detail)
is a new contemporary multi-arts festival offering diverse creative responses to Burns and featuring an exhibition of works by over 30 visual artists, including artworks of mine that were part of my collaborative publications: For A'That
(University of Dundee, 2010) with contemporary writers and poets, edited by Kirsty Gunn and Anna Day and Frissure
(Polygon, 2013) with Kathleen Jamie.
The title of "Burns Unbroke"
was inspired by the epigram which prefixed Robert Burns' own first publication, in 1786:
The simple bard, unbroken by rules of art,
He pours the wild effusions of the heart;
And if inspired 'tis Nature's pow'rs inspire;
Her's all the melting thrill, and her's the kindling fire.
I will be giving a talk about ideas that underpin the book For A'That
with Kirsty Gunn on Saturday 17th February (1500-1600) which is FREE but ticketed: https://www.artruist.com/brigid-collins-kirsty-gunn/
