is a beautiful boutique hotel situated close to the traditional white villages of Canillas de Albaida and Competa in the foothills of the Sierra Almijara, in the beautiful Axarquia area, just an hour’s drive from Malaga in Southern Spain. The hotel has only 13 spacious, air-conditioned ensuite double or twin rooms, 4 of which are uniquely situated within the terraced garden. El Cerrillo is perfectly situated at the top of a hill of beautiful terraced gardens full of exotic trees and flowers and has its own olive grove, now with amazing 'adult' swings and a wonderfully eccentric tree house/bar. There are wrap-around magnificent views of terraced hillsides surrounded with small ‘pueblos blancos’ scattered down the hillside.
Owners Sue and Gordon have lovingly restored the old olive mill with artists, writers and walkers in mind, creating amazing vistas throughout, plus a large fully equipped artist's studio. In the studio, artists are a mix of professional and keen amateurs and the sharing of images and ideas is very open in approach, which includes an in-house studio exhibition at the end of the week. Artists will have full mornings of tuition daily with Brigid and, in the afternoons, will be free to continue to paint or walk/relax in the idyllic surroundings of El Cerrillo, which include a swimming pool. The daily walking party, led by local guides, shares the cost of car hire or taxi.
